Brighton 21.06.07 - By Christine G
Ronan conquered Brighton from the moment he hit the stage - we all adored him.
Turn it On was the opening song and has become a famous opening anthem at Ronan's festivals. It has become firmly etched in our minds as an explosive opening chord – and cranked the excitement level up to the max at Stanmer Park. Ronan's style was simple and understated with him wearing a casual white shirt and pale blue jeans, but his presence was far from understated.
Ronan sang 5 songs from the Bring You Home album; the sultry sweet All Over Again with the soulful tones of Janet Ramus blending together beautifully with Ronan's vocals, the charmingly sweet This I Promise You and the infectiously chirpy Friends in Time, also the cheekily suggestive Back in the Backseat which had everyone revelling in the moment. But the real show stopper had to be the simply adorable Superman, which Ronan sang with a depth of intensity that made the whole audience swoon with delight. Another pitch perfect performance was Friends in Time when Ronan gave us all a treat by strumming along to the song with his guitar – nice one Ronan.
Ronan's customary walk-out into the crowd to the familiar notes of The Way you Make me Feel was sadly absent from this show. I do hope we are not going to be deprived in the future from getting up close and personal to Ronan, as this feature is becoming a much loved part of the act for all the fans.
Ronan's voice sounded as smouldering as ever for the classic Ronan ballads, and yet strong and powerful for the up-tempo tracks. Even when the rain began to pour and Ronan launched himself into the now legendary lyrics of Rollercoaster nobody gave a damn about the weather and emotions were as high as they could ever be.
A nice touch at the end of the show was when Ronan unfurled the Irish tricolour and held it in his hands as he sang.
As the poignant lyrics of The Long Goodbye echoed around Stanmer Park it become self-evident from the smiling faces - Ronan had pulled off a real show stopper.
All I can say is roll on Doncaster!
