Vicar Street Dublin 21.12.04 - By Mary
OMG wot an amazing gig!! :D I qued for ages yesterday with Regina and my cousin Anna. It was freezing cold :( but last night made every single minute worth it!! I can honestly say it was the best Ronan concert I have ever been too in all my years as a Boyzone and Ronan fan and Iv never seen him look so happy!! :D
He arrived at the venue around 4 and there were only 9 of us there. He got out of the car and said hi to us all and said "well yas have finally got your dublin gig guys." He said he had to go inside for a press photocall but would try and come back out later.
We got inside around 7 and myself, regina and anna were first in the door. I got directly infront of his microphone in front of the stage :D The venue was so small and I just couldnt believe how close I was!! A band called Baby Jenks (i think) sang a few songs and then on came Ronan just after 9. Words cannot describe how brilliant the show was!!
You could tell he was nervous but the support from the crowd was unbelieveable and u could tell how absolutely delighted Ro was :D I got to shake his hand in The Way You Make Me Feel and actually got really emotional, which I havent done at a Ronan gig in about 4 years!!
He looked fantastic, in jeans, a white shirt and snake skin shoes. It was great to be that close and have him look at you and smile at numerous times throughout the night.
Regina had decided previously that we should bring a flag and so I told her to bring it, and how glad we are!! We held it up for a while and during the encore in 'Lovin Each Day' he leaned over and we reached it over 2 him. He held it up infront of everyone, while the audience went mad and then kissed it and threw it back to us. :D
He spoke a lot more about the Marie Keating Foundation and how in the past year there has been a 6% decrease in the level of Breast Cancer in Ireland and how they like to think they have helped contribute to that in some way. He told a funny story about Gerard putting on a bet on Father and Son and how he phoned him up one day and said Ro are ya gonna be no. 1 for christmas? And Ronan said well Gerard I dont know but I'l try. So gerard said well listen will ye do your best and do all the promotions for it for me cos Iv just passed the bookies and put on a bet at 16-1 at you being number 1 for christmas!! So when band aid announced they were releasing, Gerard said to Ronan, "ah ro it doesnt look too good does it" but luckily Paddy Powers still payed out for him!
He seemed so genuinely amazed with the reception and said its been over 2 years since he was last in Dublin. He told everyone he will never forget about them though and tonight had been an absolute blast. He then said that Dublin was his home, it was where he lived and it was where he loved :D He thanked us all for letting him come back and play and that hopefully he will c us next year! I think Keith was also there last night - the security were talking about it while we were waiting outside all day.
The size of the venue, the audience, the fact I was centre front row, getting to shake his hand, him taking the flag and most of all, Ronans reaction made me without doubt very sad to see the end of the best gig I have ever been to! Hi to everyone who I met in Dublin!! Regina obv, Julie, Sarah, Orla, Susan, Emmz, Lindsay, Janina and everyone else too! Wot a night hey girls! ;)
